Date: 30 August 2025
Location: Brikama District Hospital, West Coast Region, The Gambia
As part of its ongoing community service and public health initiatives, Njaboute Foundation organised a general cleaning exercise at Brikama District Hospital on 30 August 2025. The initiative brought together Foundation members, hospital staff, and local volunteers — about 40 participants in total — united by a shared goal: to promote environmental hygiene and contribute to improved health outcomes within the hospital

The day commenced with an opening briefing led by Mr. Ousman A. Bah, Administrator of Njaboute Foundation. Participants were divided into teams responsible for cleaning different areas of the hospital, including the general wards (paediatric and adult), maternity wards (antenatal and postnatal), the surrounding environment, and waste disposal zones.
Armed with gloves, brooms, detergents, and rubbish bags supplied by the hospital management, volunteers engaged in sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, waste clearance, and surface disinfection. The collaboration between Njaboute Foundation members and hospital staff fostered a strong sense of teamwork and community spirit throughout the activity.

By the end of the day, the results were visible and highly appreciated. The hospital grounds looked refreshed and cleaner, fostering a safer and more welcoming environment for patients and staff alike. The activity also strengthened the partnership between Njaboute Foundation and the Brikama District Hospital administration, who expressed sincere gratitude for the Foundation’s consistent commitment to public health improvement.
Beyond the physical cleanup, the event succeeded in raising awareness about the importance of hygiene in healthcare settings and inspired greater community involvement in environmental health initiatives.
Commitment to a Healthier Future
The success of this exercise reaffirms Njaboute Foundation’s dedication to fostering cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable communities. As Mr. Abdoulie K. Baldeh, Founder and CEO of the Foundation, noted in his review of the activity, “Our mission goes beyond charity — it’s about empowering communities to take ownership of their health and environment.”
Looking Ahead
Building on this momentum, the Foundation plans to:
· Conduct regular cleaning exercises in hospitals and public institutions.
· Collaborate with local councils and health authorities to maximise impact.
· Engage more youth and community groups to promote volunteerism.
· Secure additional sanitation equipment to sustain future activities.
Njaboute Foundation extends heartfelt thanks to all participants, hospital staff, and volunteers who made the Brikama District Hospital’s cleaning exercise a success. Together, we continue to build a cleaner, healthier Gambia — one community at a time.
